Experiments #1-100

2011 - 2013

I always start with photographs as slides or negatives that I treat manually using different techniques and materials. I then scan the treated photographs. For further treatment the scans may be digitally blended and colour-corrected, but not cropped or treated using effect filters.

This is an experimental procedure. Each result may be reproduced digitally, there is however only one original copy of the treated film negative.

Initially, I did not want to work too results-oriented, so I set myself 100 experiments to begin with (LICHTWERKE #01-100). The first seventy pictures I made without filtering and by freely testing a variety of materials on motives from my picture archive. The challenge for the remaining thirty pictures was to motivate myself again and again to find new approaches, to verify methods and to accept and document results.
